Despite the freezing weather, members of the Boston Tibetan Association, in conjunction with Amnesty International, held their weekly candlelight vigil for Ngawang in front of the State House from 4 to 6 pm. The 48-hour fast started simultaneously. There are 20 persons participating in the fast and, of these, seven people will be fasting for the whole 48 hours. Arrangements were made for individuals participating in the fast to spend the night in a nearby church. The fasting is scheduled to end at 4 pm on 1 February.
